90's floral

I made this dress when I was in high school. It was my first time sewing princess seams. They were not easy. I love the criss-crossed straps in the back and the way the dress flares out when I turn.

Awards and Dinner

I recently returned from 10 days out of town. I spent the first few days at the beach with my parents. Then I attended an immigration lawyers convention in the Washington D.C. suburbs. Finally, my boyfriend and I spent the 4th of July weekend in D.C. at the house of some friends.

These photos are from the last day of the convention. This is a three-quarter sleeve dress. The jacket is wool, fully-lined. It was 96 degrees outside. Yet, the convention center was cold enough for me to wear these clothes with tights, and I was still a bit on the cool side. Crazy!

A colleague from Chicago was honored at the convention for her contributions to immigration law. The awards ceremony ran long, but was surprisingly interesting and enjoyable. The honoree hosted a small celebratory dinner after the awards presentation.

Neutrals

I dug deeeeeep into my closet for this top, which dates back to the mid-90's. It was second-hand then, from either my mother or a friend.

The shorts are new. Before I bought these, my knee-length shorts were all uber casual and my dressier shorts were all pretty short, so I'd been on the lookout for a longer pair of dressier shorts. I found these linen shorts on sale for $10 at H&M.

Where:
work, library, errands

What:
Shorts: H&M (new!)
Top: mine from the 1990's (second-hand)
Jacket: Old Navy

Purse: ?? (thrifted)

On the beach

I recently returned from a 10-day trip. I spent the first few days at the beach with my parents. Then I attended an immigration lawyers convention in the Washington D.C. suburbs. Finally, my boyfriend and I spent the 4th of July weekend in D.C. at the house of some friends.

While at the beach, my parents and I ate out every night. We started with our traditional first-night pizza at Grotto's, followed by mediocre Mexican, great burgers, and for the piece de resistance: lobster. After dinner, we'd walk on the boardwalk for a bit, then I'd take a solo walk on the beach before retiring for the evening.

Where:
dinner out, shopping and walking on the boardwalk and beach

What:
Dress: ?? (thrifted)
Earrings: World Market

I'm back

I was out of town for the last 10 days. I spent the first few days at the beach with my parents. Then I attended an immigration lawyers convention in the Washington D.C. suburbs. Finally, my boyfriend and I spent the 4th of July weekend in D.C. at the house of some friends.

My parents rented a condo unit right on the boardwalk, and I stayed with them for a few days at the end of June. We had great beach weather! In the 90's everyday. The condo had a balcony that overlooked the boardwalk and the ocean. I sat out there every night enjoying the view, the sound of the surf and the ocean breeze. I love the beach!!

I've looked at tankini tops before, but this is the first year I've found one I liked (and that was reasonably priced). Between the extra coverage from the top and the 90-degree weather, I didn't use a beach cover up at all.

Where:
the beach

What:
Tankini Top: Old Navy
Bottoms: Victoria's Secret
