Have a (Healthy) Heart

Happy February! Looks like February will be ushered in by the biggest snowstown that Chicago has seen in over 40 years. I'm prepared to bundle up and wade through snow drifts. Then maybe, in exchange, the universe could stop bringing the snow and cold weather my way?

The American Heart Association's National Wear Red Day is this Friday, February 4. Wear Red to support heart health in women. According to the AHA, heart disease is the No. 1 killer of women, taking the life of more than 1 in 3 women every year. More women die of cardiovascular disease and stroke than the next four causes of death combined, including all forms of cancer. Ninety percent (90%) of women have one or more risk factors for developing heart disease, which if controlled could reduce their risk. Eighty percent (80%) of cardiac events in women could be prevented if women made heart-healthy choices involving diet, exercise and not smoking. The AHA uses funds to promote public awareness and support research.

Andie, from the blog What Andie Wears, has organized a blogger campaign to wear red on Friday, February 4th, in support of women's heart health, and then to continue to wear red at least once a week for the rest of February. Please join me in wearing red this Friday!
