Private Lives

I'm currently rehearsing for Private Lives, which opens Thursday. I play Louise, the maid, a small part which would not be very challenging but for the fact that my entire part is in French. I've studied French in high school and college, but I've never really had the chance to use it, as opposed to my Spanish, which I use all the time for work. So my French was never quite conversational, and to top it off, I'm a bit rusty. Which means this part has been challenging for me in a completely different way than I usually think of being challenged by theater roles.

That's me in my costume in the picture above. Everything except the cameo brooch is from my own closet. We have a hairstylist coming in nightly to put our hair up into 1930's styles.

If you're in the area, come check it out! Don't worry, other than my lines, the play is in English. :-)

The Munroe Park Theater Guild Presents
Private Lives
An intimate Comedy by Noel Coward

Hailed as one of the most sophisticated and entertaining plays, Private Lives is the story of Elyot and Amanda, who were once married and are now honeymooning with new spouses at the same hotel. They meet by chance, reignite the old spark, and impulsively elope. After days of being reunited, they again find their fiery romance alternating between passions of love and anger. Their aggrieved spouses appear and a roundelay of affiliations ensues as the women first stick together, then apart, and new partnerships are formed.
